Introduction to the Qualifications: The TQUK confined space qualifications are regulated by Ofqual. They were supported by Proskills at the time of development.

The qualifications have been migrated from the QCF to the RQF. As part of the transition, total qualification time has been calculated and some changes have been made to GLH values.

Qualification Purpose:The TQUK suite of confined space qualifications provides learners with the opportunity to develop knowledge 3 and understanding of working in confined spaces. Areas covered include health and safety, classification of confined spaces by risk level and specific requirements for medium and high risk areas. Learners will be able to progress to qualifications in the same, or another, subject area and prepare them for employment.

Entry Requirements:There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have a minimum of level two in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

The qualification is suitable for learners of 16 years of age and above.

Progression: Successful learners can progress to other qualifications such as: -

  • TQUK Level 3 Award in Emergency Rescue and Recovery of Casualties from Confined Spaces
  • TQUK Level 3 Award in Working as Top Person in High Risk Confined Spaces
  • TQUK Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Structure:  TQUK Level 2 Award in Principles of Working in Confined Spaces (RQF)

Learners must achieve a total of one credit from one Mandatory unit.

Total Qualification Time: This is an estimate of the total length of time it is expected that a learner will typically take to achieve and demonstrate the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification i.e. to achieve all learning outcomes.

6 Total Qualification Time is comprised of GLH and an estimate of the number of hours a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study or any other learning including assessment, which takes place as directed by, but not under the supervision of a lecturer, supervisor or tutor. The credit value, where given, for a qualification is determined by TQT, as one credit corresponds to 10 hours of learning.

Total Qualification Time for the qualifications are:

TQUK Level 2 Award in Principles of Working in Confined Spaces (RQF) - 10 hours

TQUK Level 2 Award in Working in Confined Spaces - Low and Medium Risk (RQF) – 30 hours

TQUK Level 2 Award in Working in Confined Spaces – High Risk (RQF) – 50 hours

Guided Learning Hours: These hours are made up of all real time contact time, guidance or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer or other appropriate provider of education or training.

TQUK Level 2 Award in Principles of Working in Confined Spaces (RQF) – GLH 4

TQUK Level 2 Award in Working in Confined Spaces - Low and Medium Risk - GLH 10

TQUK Level 2 Award in Working in Confined Spaces – High Risk (RQF) – GLH 12
